That's considered a popper Barber I do believe the bottom length should be a little bit shorter and have a swivel at the bottom butt but it does work because it is a popper bobber that when you jig it in it makes popping sounds in the water and splashing sounds that attract fish to your bait what I usually do is cut the bottom wire shorter slip on a round crimper then slide on a swivel then put the tag in back in the round crimper put it even with the and then crimp it smash it with your pliers to crimp it can I stay in place and it works better that way

My brother, rip, was considered to be one of the best ceviche makers in our circle. Whenever we had a gathering, people always requested his ceviche. People always asked why it was so good, and he said it was his secret ingredient. Eventually, he gave in and told us it was mullet. One of his fishing buddies wouldn’t believe him, so they went out and caught some fresh mullet and made ceviche out of them. Was he surprised that my brother wasn’t lying. He refused to eat his ceviche after that. 😂

Having lived in Florida I know several people how fish for and eat catfish and mullet every day.

Gafftop is good and tasty! Cut out the veins and darker meat , gets rid of the fishy taste/smell. Hardheads are nasty (we tried it once lol). Mushy, no taste like marshmellow and oily. Never tried mullet yet, only used them for bait.

0:17 let me stop you right there. The gaff top a K sailcat is excellent table fair just as good as any other catfish people just don’t like to mess with them because they’re slimy. We have different words for people like that down here in the south, you cut that red meat out the center, you catch the big ones and you run that fillet knife a little bit above the skin line so you get none of that darker meat 90% of people will never taste the difference between the two fish or ever even noticed a difference.

Mullet is pretty good seasoned and fried, but much better smoked. When I was growing up near Tampa, a few people kept sail cats, NOBODY kept hardheads.

You're cooking the mullet all wrong. Mullet is one of only 2 fish with a gizzard like a chicken. Because of this they start to decompose more quickly when they die. Mullet must be caught and cooked immediately for the freshest taste. Deep fried mullet is a Florida and Asian delicacy and especially the fried red roe. The fall and winter is the best time to get the freshest mullet. Like oysters, any month with a R is best. Mullet is also high in protein and omega 3s as well as Vitamin B6, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin B12, and Vitamin D. For those who knock it try it first. Deep fried with cornmeal is best. Enjoy!

Have had Galf before. Not bad & still would eat it. Had 1 ONLY 1 hard head as an experiment (dad had us try). It was ok & like catfish. Just the idea that it was hard head we wouldnt try again. But mullet?!?! Me & my friends were drunk. Dared eachother who would try an each it (cause we had the munchies an we were stuck camping on an island. Bad mistake. Our buddy couldnt help but VOM throughout the night.🤣

Use cut hard head catfish and it works good for gafftops. I would always also catch king fish or whiting when surf fishing we ate them too

I fell on a rock jetty fishing once. Big wake hit me and I feel into The Rock on my ribs. Broke a few ribs and knocked the wind out of me. Could have used those spikes.
